Grand opening of Conservancy Creekwalk

Posted

The High Falls Conservancy will present the official opening to the public of the Conservancy Creekwalk with a Ribbon Cutting, 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the entrance across Main Street from the Post Office, by the Locktender’s Cottage in High Falls.

Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger and Marbletown Supervisor Rich Parete, along with other special guests will be at the ceremony which caps off 10 years of work on the Creekwalk and commends all those who have contributed their energy, talent, time, and resources to the project over the past decade, and celebrates this unique piece of land in the center of High Falls.

After the Ribbon has been cut, there will be a surprise visit from the Redwing Blackbird Theater who will lead everyone down the Creekwalk to enjoy light refreshments, meet the Cornell Extension Master Gardeners, learn more about the Native Americans who walked on these same grounds, view the important historical ruins beside the Creekwalk, and discover the geological formations across the Rondout. For the children, there will be a special activity, Nature Bingo. There will also be a raffle for a chance to win a handmade High Falls Conservancy Chair.

The “Conservancy Creekwalk” is so-named, as the land is now considered a conservation area to be maintained in its natural state and serve as a place of rest, relaxation, and enjoyment for residents, friends, and visitors to High Falls. The Creekwalk has received designation as a “Certified Wildlife Habitat” by the National Wildlife Federation and will be a “Leave no Trace” area free of commercial use or other disruption of the many forms of wildlife to be found there.
