The Art of Foraging

Many common plants and fungi in our local forests, meadows, and parks are not only edible, but also delicious and nutritious. In fact, wild edibles often contain more nutrition and flavor than their cultivated counterparts, which are often bred for predictability and pest resistance.

On Thursday, September 19 at 6:30 pm join well-known local forager and chef Maria Reidelbach, as she describes the joy and fulfillment of discovering edible treasures in the wild. Foraging is an ancient knowledge that is deeply rewarding and meaningful. Wild foraging connects us to nature and taps into our most instinctive behaviors. Reidelbach has been passionate about traditional foraging since childhood and has spent the last 30 years honing her skills and expanding her knowledge. She is an author, artist, a former president of the New York Mycological Society, and a cooking instructor for the Cornell Cooperative Extension. Reidelbach holds a certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from Cornell University. This talk will showcase examples of foraged flora and fungi from Marbletown’s new Osterhoudt Park, as well as a curated collection of books on the topic to browse.
